Tabata training of course! It’s a great way to add intensity to your workout. In fact, if you don’t have a lot of time to workout then this is an excellent way to burn some calories and make intense impact on the body. You are probably wondering how this can happen in just four minutes right? Let me tell, you, they are a powerful all out four minutes, and this is why it works.
What is Tabata Training?
Dr. Izumi Tabata, a Japanese scientist, and a team of researchers from the National Institute of Fitness and Sports in Tokyo, discovered Tabata training. They worked with two control groups. The first group exercised moderately for one hour five days a week for a six week period. The second group exercised 4 minutes per day for four days a week during the six week period.
Based on Tabata’s research the group who only worked out 4 days a week for 4 minutes had a 28% increase in their anaerobic system (fast twitch muscles) and aerobic (slower twitch endurance muscles).
The result are pretty remarkable aren’t they? I usually add in one or two Tabata rounds when I am training clients. My clients always appreciate it . . . after the workout is completed.
Best Tabata Exercises
Some of the best moves for Tabata training involve the large muscle groups moves like squats, lunges, burpees, mountain climbers, push ups, etc are all excellent for a quick Tabata workout. Full body movements including a kettlebell, or a dumbbell can also be used.
How to Do Tabata Correctly
Tabata is eight rounds of exercise – 20 seconds as intense as you can, followed by ten seconds of rest. All done in four minutes – but trust me, it’s a tough four minutes, that makes changes! You can do all eight rounds with the same movement, or do four rounds of one and four rounds of another.
Let me know how your next Tabata training goes. Your body will share the results with you quickly!
