YAY! I am so excited that I just got my EmpowerBars in the mail!! I know you are probably thinking, who eats those over processed man-made, goopy “pretend” healthy bars? Well, because I have been in and around the fitness industry for all of my life, 20+ years, I have certainly tried them all, or at least stomached a bite of many of them. These are ones that are not only nutritionally sound, but have the rare combo of tasting good too!! What?? I know, it sounds like a weird concept to have both taste and nutrition in one bar, but they sure have found a way to make it happen. They are a little sticky, but easy to eat in the car, on the go, or while writing a blog post. My 3 year old son has even tried them, and enjoyed them.
They are available in such an awesome variety. It’s all of the “good stuff” without any of the “Yick”! For example – cold pressed cross-flow micro filtered whey protein isolate from grass fed cows and NO artificial flavors, NO artificial colors, NO sugar alcohol, NO soy, NO MSG, NO added sugar, NO lactose, NO gluten, BGH free, NON GMO and sweetened with Stevia! Oh, and by the way – all the flavors I have had so far – TASTE AMAZING!!! I’m still trying to find the flaw in this bar – but alas, I have ONLY found all this AWESOMENESS!! 🙂 With 13 flavors to choose from, you will never get bored with the taste.

What is prebiotic?
Prebiotics are a category of functional food, defined as non-digestible food ingredients that beneficially affect the host by selectively stimulating the growth and/or activity of one or a limited number of bacteria in the colon, and thus improve host health. Numerous scientific studies showed that IMO is a prebiotic and improve overall digestive health.
What is dietary fiber?
Dietary fibers are the indigestible portion of plant foods that move food through the digestive system, absorbing water, making defecation easier. Soluble fiber undergoes metabolic processing via fermentation, yielding end-products with broad, significant health effects. IMO is a dietary fiber because of its resistance to digestion in upper digestive tract.
What are other health benefits of IMO other than the prebiotic and dietary fiber structure function claims?
Fermentation of IMO by colonic bacteria may results in production of Short Chain Fatty Acids (SCFA) that metabolize in liver and confer many physiological benefits to the host including: protection from colon cancer, stabilize blood glucose levels, suppresses cholesterol synthesis, lowers colonic pH thus increase absorption of dietary minerals and stimulates immune protection.
How do we know that IMO is a low caloric sweetener?
IMO is a low caloric health sweetener because of the very low content of glucose (<3%) and presence of specific bonding in carbohydrate’s chains that is resistant to digestive enzymes in the lower digestive tract.
How sweet is IMO in relation to sugar?
Both syrup and powder form of IMO exhibit light sweet taste with sweetness compared to sugar (sucrose) ~50-60%. It is in essence a low calorie, low intensity sweetener as well as dietary fiber.
