Koloa Landing  at Poipu, Autograph Collection

Welcome to Kauai!! Aloha! This island has been a family favorite for years. Enough so that we keep coming back each spring and discover more every time we visit. This resort has stunning views, a few blocks to the beach, and easy walk or drive to shopping and restaurants. It is an ideal location for younger children and that relaxing vacation you crave.

Aloha and welcome to the Koloa Landing at Poipu, Autograph Collection.

We have loved staying at Koloa Landing at Poipu. In fact we have booked it there for the last five years in a row. We have enjoyed watching growth and expansion of the resort. It has a special place in our hearts. This beautiful resort with its beach villas, studios, and penthouses are ideally located in the pristine heart of the sun-drenched South Shore. The resort has an expansive 25-acres of lush tropical landscape. It is stunning and just a few blocks from the ocean and beaches.

The bridge is this wide to cross over.

Pools and Jacuzzi’s

There are three spectacular pools that grace the property: One is a secluded oasis with cascading waterfalls perfect for relaxation while two larger pools feature a playful lagoon complete with Jacuzzi and children’s swimming area. The water slides at the main pool have been a fun time for the boys. There are two different sizes of slides one for both to enjoy and one that has a 48-inch height requirement. Our oldest easily passed it this year, thank goodness. The splash pad is also fun to enjoy as they run and try to cover the spouts. Plus there are four jacuzzis located throughout the hotel, all that have beautiful views.

Enjoying the waterfall to go under the cave in the main pool.

This pool is as shallow one foot, and then goes as deep as four feet.

They can’t resist the splash pad.

Dining at the Resort

The Holoholo Grill is located next the main pool on the south end of the resort. The Grill features a good selection of appetizers, healthy salads, and gastro-inspired Hawaiian comfort food in collaboration with James Beard award -winning chef Sam Choy. The out door restaurant is fully shaded so you can take a moment out of the sunshine or they can deliver your food right to your lounge chair.

There is also the Gourmet Marketplace located in the lobby. Here you can find made-to-order specialties, island pups, sundries, and groceries. This is the ideal spot for stocking your pantry, however, we have found fully stocked grocery stores and farmers markets are the best way to go.

Overlooking the main pool and the Holoholo Grill on the left.

Since we travel with a variety of extended family, we have enjoyed staying in both the two and three bedroom suites. The full kitchen and living room give us plenty of room to come in and relax after a day of pool play. The open concept is spacious and airy. We can have a few cooks in the kitchen while others are hanging out and visiting. Plus located near the pool are large clean grills that are open to use for the guests. Oh don’t forget the evening s’mores Monday, Wednesday, and Fridays beginning at dusk on the grass lawn.

In our family, we all love roasting s’mores!

I want to be sure to mention the world class Spa at Koloa Landing too. Escape and renew at this sanctuary of relaxation. Enjoy a world class treatment to pamper you in the “island spirit of aloha”. The spa decor of the natural landscape of Kauai is woven beautifully with sophisticated modern design. This creates an ideal oasis for  unwinding after a full day of adventure play. You will have time in the luxurious pre-treatment suite, private room, and be able to browse in the retail boutique. IF you want to be pampered together they do have a special couple’s treatment room which includes a private lanai, rainfall shower heads and the islands only Japanese Ofuro soaking tub.

Activities Onsite

Koloa Landing has many options for the large open grassy areas. There are a few soccer balls with nets at each end. There is a putting green with several sizes of golf clubs and balls to practice before venturing out to one of the many golf courses on the island. A grass volleyball court is set up and often you will find small groups of people playing and including others as they decide to join in for a game.

We have also seen morning yoga classes on the grass lawn. Check the weekly schedule to confirm times and other options for  onsite activities. The gym is a clean full sized gym with complete sets of dumbbells, kettlebells, several treadmills, ellipticals, bikes, as well as a variety of weight training machines. Towel and water are provided. There are yoga mats, foam rollers, and other stretching accessories. The treadmills face west looking out full windows overlooking the pools towards the ocean for your complete inspiration.

We like to play a pick up game of soccer on our way back to the room.

Let’s get the soccer ball from mom!

Practicing some afternoon putting on the green.

Bump, Set, Spike, and he goes up for the block!

This location is easy to take a five-minute palm-lined stroll to the seaside Shops at Kukui’ula Village where exquisite shoppingand restaurants await. Wednesday later afternoon is a farmers market. We usually buy food for dinner to bring home and cook.

Some fresh island fruits at our farmers market find.

Not only are there fresh fruits and veggies at the market, but check out these beautiful island bouquets.

Restaurants to check out are:

Totilla Republic

Merriman’s Fish House

Eating House 1849

Dolphin Sushi

A few minutes walk in the other direction is the Poipu Shopping Village. Every first and third Tuesday of the month is the Farmers Market. Every Monday and Thursday there is Live Entertainment with hula dancers and singers. It is fun for the whole family.

Some of the  restaurants we frequent  are:

Anueanue – we love their breakfasts

Kola Juice Co. – great for cold pressed juices

Pertro’s Pizza –  tasty pizzas.

Keoki’s Paradise – a beautiful paradise built inside the restaurant with good food and desserts.

Starbucks – opens early for those arriving from different time zones.

We love that the hotel even has an Easter egg hunt when we have been there during the holiday. They divide it up by age groups to be sure all the children have a chance to fill their bags with candy stuffed plastic eggs. The youngest group goes first with the eggs mostly visible to seek. Then there are two more age group categories waiting for their opportunity to look for the masterfully hidden eggs.

The kids loved searching for the Easter Eggs on the large grassy lawn.

All the kiddos found plenty of sweet filled eggs. A race well done for the kids and well organized for the parents to watch.

If you are thinking about a trip to Kauai, I highly recommend staying at Koloa Landing at Poipu, Autograph Collection. Our family and extended family have made such wonderful memories that we continue to return each year. We discover more about the island, activities, and restaurants.
