The weekends sometime seem more tiring than during the week, now that I am a mom with two active boys. So I joyfully look forward to Monday. We usually come back to a weekly routine and its easier for me to squeeze in my workout. It is also my favorite day since I get to start it working with clients helping them achieve their fitness goals. So I have a WORKOUT INCLUDED in this post, just for you . . actually two.
I had to modify my workout today to just two movements, power walking and lunges. Boy did it feel good! I got the blood flowing and some of that “back stiffness” worked out. I am not fully healed from my car accident that happened in May. So I am extra careful to listen to my body. According to my Garmin VivoFit Athletic HR I walked 2,000 steps too! That felt great.
My program today consisted of alternating moderate power walking and 20 lunges for 5 sets giving me 100 lunges and 2,000 steps. I finished this in just 20 minutes. For more power workouts you can check out the Strength and Training Section on my blog.
If you are feeling more ambitious try this workout to get your week started out right. You will want to alternate 30 seconds of activity with 30 seconds of “active rest”. If you are unfamiliar with “active rest” it just means you need to keep moving – walking, stepping side to side, or crunches are good options for your active rest.
Push ups – either regular or triceps (elbows in close to your body)
Wall sit – bend your knees 90 degrees with your back against a wall, keep your kneed above your ankles
Plank – on elbows or with straight arms
squats – feet either parallel or wide and turned out
Mountain climbers – very important to keep those hips low and the feet moving fast
Walking lunges – take a long step forward and keep the shoulders above your hips and your knee over your ankle
Burpees – finish strong with a jump for an extra calorie burn
You can repeat this circuit one to three times or space it out throughout the day.
